Trans-resveratrol is a natural compound best known for its presence in red wine that may act as an antioxidant, promote cardiovascular health, and increase longevity.*
Resveratrol is a stilbenoid, a type of natural phenol, and a phytoalexin produced by several plants in response to injury or, when the plant is under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi. Sources of resveratrol in food include the skin of grapes, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries, and peanuts. Studies suggest resveratrol acts as an antioxidant, sirtuin upregulator, and longevity promoter.

Description
What is Trans-Resveratrol?
Resveratrol is a stilbenoid, a type of natural phenol, and a phytoalexin produced by several plants in response to injury or when the plant is under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi. Sources of resveratrol in food include the skin of grapes, blueberries, raspberries, mulberries, and peanuts. There are two naturally occurring isomers of resveratrol: cis-resveratrol and trans-resveratrol. Trans-Resveratrol is the most stable and most closely associated with the therapeutic health benefits. Studies suggest trans-resveratrol acts as an antioxidant, sirtuin upregulator, and longevity promoter, and may support heart and cardiovascular health.
Trans-Resveratrol Benefits and Uses
Studies have shown that trans-resveratrol may have the following benefits:
- Supports heart and cardiovascular health
- Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects
- Promotes healthy aging
Additional Information on Trans-Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound referred to as a ‘stilbene’ due to its structure, and it is the most common and well researched stilbene currently known (despite stilbene’s per se being a class of molecules). Stilbenes tend to be most well known for occurring in the Vitis family (Grape family) although they extend to many plants. Resveratrol is best known for its presence in red wine. Resveratrol can exist in one of two isomers: trans-resveratrol and cis-resveratrol. Many actions seen from trans-resveratrol are not seen with cis-resveratrol, including modulation of the inflammatory response. Trans-resveratrol may also act as an upregulator of sirtuin, a group of cytoplasmic and mitochondrial proteins that are involved in energy restriction and metabolism and thought to be related to aging. This mechanism of trans-resveratrol may be responsible for its role in increasing longevity. For more information on trans-resveratrol, please find further information here. Botany’s Resveratrol is ≥98% pure and derived from Polygonum cuspidatum.
