Myricetin is a member of the flavonoid class of polyphenolic compounds, which is considered to have antioxidant properties. Myricetin is produced from the parent compound taxifolin through the (+)-dihydromyricetin intermediate. Dihydromyricetin is frequently sold as a supplement and has a controversial function as a partial GABAA receptor.

Myricetin is a naturally occurring compound that has been isolated from the leaves of Myrica rubra and other plants. It has a potential role as a cyclooxygenase 1 inhibitor, an antineoplastic agent and an antioxidant. Myricetin is structurally similar to fisetin, luteolin, and quercetin and is reported to have many of the same functions as these other members of the flavonol class of flavonoids.
